Anti-Racism Statement

The Change-Makers Foundation maintains its commitment to identifying, confronting, and ultimately eliminating all kinds of racism and ethnic discrimination. We commit to collaborating with stakeholders both inside and outside our walls in order to enhance collaborative service and scholarship that resist oppression and bigotry. TCM Foundation's mission is to enable students, faculty, and community members to work toward the abolition of racial and ethnic discrimination, with a particular emphasis on Anti-Black and Anti-Indigenous racism.

Racism is not something you can pick and choose when to be against.

We have heard the plea from Black Lives Matter and others to address systematic violence, racism, and inequality affecting Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) people in all facets of society. We are committed to long-term societal change and are constantly renewing our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies and programs to accomplish this aim.  We must try to acknowledge the ways in which we exacerbate the very real difficulties facing members of our community who are BIPOC.

While statements might be meaningful, only committed, consistent, and ongoing action results in positive change. TCM Foundation acknowledges that regardless of one's own colour, each of us is on a unique path toward anti-racism. We understand racism as the result of the convergence of social and systemic pressures that result in differential outcomes for BIPOC populations. As a community, we will make a concerted effort to identify, discuss, and address issues that impede our progress toward becoming an anti-racist community.

We are committed to:

  • Long-term societal change and are constantly renewing our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies and programs to accomplish this aim.

  • Recognizing that racism is a societal and global issue that necessitates ongoing education.

  • Recognizing that racism is ingrained in our organizational structures, policies, and procedures and that these structures must be augmented such that what they stand for, and the initiatives they run are through an anti-racist and culturally-responsive lens.

  • Listening to and amplifying the stories of our Black, Indigenous, and POC students, instructors, and staff to gain a better understanding of their lives

  • Investing resources in developing, organizing, and supporting anti-Black and Indigenous racism projects.

We acknowledge that addressing and combating racism requires a lifetime of effort. We must be diligent as a community in our learning, listening, and action in order to achieve change. We commit to combating racism, discrimination, and other forms of prejudice and injustice in order to make our community more inviting, inclusive, and safe. We remain committed to fostering an atmosphere conducive to the flourishing of all members of our community, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socioeconomic background.
