Meet the Board

Victor Adarquah

Founder & Executive Director

Victor Adarquah is currently a graduate student at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Medical Science. Once finished with graduate studies, his aim is to continue the journey into medical school so that he can one day become a clinician-scientist who improves health outcomes either through research or by addressing health disparities in clinical settings. His goal is to examine specifically how anti-Black racism exacerbates the vulnerabilities faced by people with disabilities and offer steps towards creating a more equitable future for ALL.

Angela Adarquah

Chair

Angela was born in Ghana, West Africa. She came to Canada at the age of 10 with her parents and younger sister. Presently, she is an educator and has had the pleasure of working with youth of all ages. Why, you might ask, did she pursue this pathway? In short, pursuing this pathway has allowed her to continue making an impact on the lives of the youth she works with in her own way. She believes that  as an educator, the ownness falls on you to help shape a student's self-esteem and confidence, as well as helping inspire career aspirations and attitudes toward school. She STRONGLY believes that as a BLACK EDUCATOR, she can leave a mark on the lives of the BLACK YOUTH she works with by helping them realize their OWN EXCELLENCE.

Kellina Powell

Vice-Chair

KELLINA POWELL is the Deaf Queen Boss

At the age of 4, Kellina abruptly lost 100% of her hearing in both ears causing her to face many challenges as a deaf person in a hearing world.

This stirred a passion in Kellina to become an activist, doing what she can to eliminate the stigma for people with disabilities, especially those who are deaf. Kellina pursued her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a diploma in Mental Health and Addiction to inspire young professionals with hearing loss. Based out of Toronto, Kellina recently achieved the coveted status as an Amazon #1 best-selling author with "Everyday I am Just Deaf", giving readers an honest perspective of life in a hearing world. She has appeared in over 100 podcasts in 8 countries to create more opportunities for people with disabilities
